This lunch concert is performed by professional musicians playing newly written electronic music together with 30-ish upper-secondary school pupils using their mobile phones. Anders Lind, artistic lecturer at Umeå University, has composed several pieces to be played by orchestras and mobile phones. The concept is simple: young people without prior knowledge can rapidly play complex music together with professional musicians using their mobile phones and a colour-based music system.
The Mobile Phone Orchestra is part of a three-year method development project for which Norrlandsoperan and Umeå University are collaborating, with financial support from the Swedish Arts Council. The objective of the project is to introduce young people into actively listening to and making music, and to create contemporary art music. Everyone is welcome.
