To an athlete, being suspended for doping can be a career-ending and life-altering event. It is therefore problematic that such punishments are handed out by thousands of sports institutions across the world, many of whom are staffed by volunteers and may be biased. To ensure fair, consistent, and correct outcomes, doping decisions can be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, appellate success depends on resources that most athletes lack: money, knowledge, and contacts. The project seeks to improve athletes’ access to justice through a tool that predicts the chance of a successful appeal and, importantly, explains the factors that affect that chance.
