Visiting researcher Filip Husnik, Assistant professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, will give a talk in IceLab titled 'The fate of obligate endosymbonts: reduction, integration or extinction' on January 20th at 14:00, in IceLab and through Zoom.
He is broadly interested in the evolution of symbiotic organisms, organelles, and horizontal gene transfer. In his research, he combines field work (insect and protist sampling), wet lab methods (molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology), and computational approaches (genomics, transcriptomics and phylogenomics) to understand complex multi-species symbiotic systems.
Filip's visit is funded by the Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation.
