Time Wednesday 26 February, 2025 at 12:00 - 13:00
Place KBC Glasburen

The Integrated Science Lab invites you to join the conversation at the second Lunch Pitch of the season. Esteban Guerrero Rosero will give a pitch about real-world scenarios in AI education, and Armando Perez Cueto will pitch about interdisciplinary contributions to a sustainable healthy food and dietary transition in Umeå.

Join the conversation - everyone is welcome!

To encourage cross pollination of ideas between researchers from different disciplines, IceLab hosts interdisciplinary research lunches with the vision of allowing ideas to meet and mate. During the Lunch Pitch Season, the creative lunches take place at KBC (Glasburen) on a Wednesday.

Register to come to the pitch and reserve your lunch by Monday, 24 February at 10am

Who is pitching about what?

Pitch 1: Esteban Guerrero Rosero, Associate Professor, Department of Computing Science

Bridging the Gap: Integrating Real-World Scenarios into AI Education

We aim to enhance AI education by integrating real-world scenarios into both basic and advanced courses, fostering a strong synergy between academia and external stakeholders.  This approach empowers students by challenging them with real-world problems, leading to increased confidence and motivation as they develop impactful solutions.  The Department of Computing Science is actively seeking to expand collaborations with external partners to further enrich this learning experience. Among other active collaborators/stakeholders we have Umeå Energi (Innovation team) and Umeå Kommun (Gender Equality Strategy office).

Interested in: Connecting with other researchers or stakeholders to plan project-based courses (advanced and basic courses for artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction).

Pitch 2: Armando Perez-Cueto, Arctic Six Chair and Professor, Department of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Science and Arctic Centre at Umeå University (ARCUM)

How can different disciplines contribute to a sustainable healthy food and dietary transition here in Umeå?

Armando Perez-Cueto will introduce his research group on sustainable food transitions and motivate why we need a food transition (even in the Arctic). Three EU projects will be briefly introduced (HealthFerm, Locality and FlavourFerm), and potential collaboration areas proposed.

For example, Armando and his group have a lot of consumer data that could serve as the basis for a shared Master's or Bachelor's student needing a dataset and with the aim of a collaborative publishable paper. Another potential collaboration area could be considering how other disciplines (e.g. AI, medicine, plant-science, biology, etc.) can contribute to shifting to plant-based diets.  The most important would be to hear from the perspectives of each participant.

Interested in: collaborating on a shared master's or bachelor's project using consumer data or harnessing AI to help people shift their diets.
