Many research funders require or recommend that researchers who receive a grant for a research project write a data management plan. This workshop gives you an opportunity to learn what a data management plan is all about and how you can use the DMPonline tool to write and maintain a data management plan.
Target group and prior knowledge
This workshop is aimed at you as a PhD student, researcher or employee who carry out research. You do not need to have prior knowledge of data management plans, but it is an advantage if you have:
Experience in documentation and secure management of research data.
Basic knowledge of metadata and metadata standards.
Knowledge of the different groups of stakeholders that you need to consider when planning your research and handling your research data.
This workshop will be held in English.
Learning objectives
After the workshop you will:
Know the difference between a research application and a data management plan, and how a data management plan is structured.
Know the core requirements by Science Europe for data management plans.
Know what the policy for research data at Umeå University says about data management plans.
Know what the Swedish Research Council says about data management plans and how you can find information about data management plans in the research data web at Umeå University Library.
Understand which stakeholders you talk to in the various sections of a data management plan.
Know the benefits a data management plan can give you to organize the management of your research data.
Know how a data management plan should be preserved and archived according to the document management plan.
Know how to use DMPonline to write a data management plan and how to find the templates available there.
