The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental archaeology invites you to a seminar with Helena Victor from Museiarkeologi sydost and Kalmar läns museum. Victor will give a talk on the topic of "Sandby borg -working with a massacre".
Abstract: In Sandby borg, a ringfort on the island of Öland, we have found traces of a massacre that took place around 500 AD We use the term Frozen Moment because the killed individuals were left where the fell in the middle of their daily life. The period of time, the Migration period, was very turbulent with the Huns, Barbaricum getting stronger and the fall of the Western Roman Empire. This also affected the inhabitants on Öland and bases the frame for what happened in Sandby borg.
