East Meets West: American vs European research styles. What we should know about it.

Do you ever wonder why an American researcher's favorite journal reads like a Hollywood blockbuster (e.g., AMR), while a European scholar's top pick has the aroma of a fine Bordeaux (e.g., Organization Studies)? Or questioned why Americans are quick to collaborate like a startup in a hackathon, while Europeans approach it more like a long chess game? If these questions spark your curiosity, then reserve a spot in your calendar!

Our seminar will kick off with a short intro by Serg, followed by an open-panel discussion. Medhanie, Sophie, and Angelos are happy to share their firsthand impressions on the topic, drawing from their experiences in both American and European research environments. Naturally, your questions and personal perspectives will be most welcome.

To name a few, we will delve into such areas as:

  1. Publishing Avenues: What factors should researchers consider when deciding between American and European journals for paper submissions?
  2. Cultural Underpinnings: What role do cultural factors play?
  3. Networking and Collaboration: Are there differences in how researchers from these regions network and collaborate?
