Designing Cycles at 64° is building on the legacy of Bengt Warne’s Naturhus principles by exploring greenhouse extensions and envelopes (GEE) combined with various circular solutions. The project aims to change the role of residents and buildings from being consumers to becoming producers.
The symposium at Umeå School of Architecture gathers local and international researchers and practitioners to share circular approaches and best-practice examples in the context of climate urgency and the potential of the built environment. Architecture and neighbourhood models including user perspectives and living lab formats initiate discussions around the potential of GEEs to retrofit our built environment in this specific climate zone of 64° N.
Project partners: Umeå Kommun, SLU, Aarhus University, Vidden Bostad AB funded by Vinnova / Climate Adaptation of the Built Environment.
The symposium is organised and moderated by Cornelia Redeker, Sara Thor, Constanze Hirt, Philipp Lott and Erica Grundström with the support of UTRI and part of the national education program ÖPPET FÖR KLIMATET Learning4Professionals.
