Welcome to the CEDAR seminar with Alison Kafer

On Long Covid & Menopause, “Sexiness” & Shame

As disability studies continues to reckon with the relationships between disability and age, which conditions are understood as available for claiming or reclaiming, and which are seen as beyond the reach of politics or desire? Using Jane Gallop’s discussion of queercrip ageing as a point of departure, I want to focus in particular on brain fog and incontinence in relation to long covid and menopause.

Alison Kafer is the Director of LGBTQ Studies and the Embrey Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the author of Feminist, Queer, Crip (2013) and a co-editor of Crip Genealogies (2023). Her work has also appeared in a number of journals and anthologies, including Catalyst: Feminism, Theory, Technoscience; Crip Authorship; Fighting Mad: Resisting the End of Roe v. Wade; and South Atlantic Quarterly.

All interested are welcome to participate. If you want to participate digitally, please contact Mojgan to receive a meeting link.
