The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental archaeology invites you to a seminar with Ashely Green. Green will speak on the topic of "From Field to Screen: Tools for data visualisation and dissemination from an archaeological perspective".

Zoom link: https://umu.zoom.us/j/65795370399

Abstract: As the large amounts of data created from rock art documentation as well as the location and preservation of the rock art itself can impede analysis and data dissemination, the Swedish Rock Art Research Archives (SHFA – Svenskt Hällristningsforskningsarkiv) collaborated with Gothenburg Research Infrastructure in Digital Humanities (GRIDH), in developing open-source tools for topographic analysis and online data dissemination.  Topography Visualisation Toolbox (TVT; https://tvt.dh.gu.se/) is a tool for enhancing small changes in topography using 3D models, with final image outputs that can be used in AI workflows.  The SHFA website (https://shfa.dh.gu.se/) utilises GRIDH’s database solution and multimodal viewer (Westin et al. 2025) to display images and 3D models alongside their metadata.  In developing these open-source tools and offering data under a CC-BY licence, we aim to collaborate with a much wider audience and provide data for both researchers and the public.  This talk will focus on the original uses of these tools for rock art research and their current applications beyond this.
