Umeå School of Architecture invites you to an exhibition of the results of the educational design studio 2's interdisciplinary collaboration on off-grid housing solutions on the island of Holmön. Within' the project, ‘Closing LOOPS’, second- and third-year students from the architecture programme and second year engineering students from the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics have explored the relationship between circular, climate-adapted design and life cycle analysis.

As part of the EU funded programme Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic project Bauhaus Goes North, Umeå School of Architecture and the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University presents the results of the collaboration on circular architecture with a focus on reused materials from the region and life cycle analyses for off-grid housing solutions on the island of Holmön. The interdisciplinary 5-week student workshop investigated solutions around the water-energy-food nexus to increase self-sufficiency in combination with comparatively calculating Passive House and Swedish Building standards in 16 representative design projects. Building energy balance, life cycle costing and life cycle analyses formulated a building passport for each of the 16 future innovations.

The projects are openly exhibited to students, staff and the public during an afternoon event in the entrance area of Umeå School of Architecture.
