Umeå university Department of Law and Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University faculty of Economics and Law In association with the Centre for Transdisciplinary AI (TAIGA) at Umeå university invite you to an online seminar.
The arrival of generative AI models for text, images and music, like ChatGPT, Dall-E, Midjourney and others have raised a number of issues relating to intellectual property rights. Whether AI generated works are covered by copyright protection, and whether authors of such works should enjoy protection for their economic and moral rights are questions that in many states are currently being litigated, while in other states the question has been answered by courts.
There are however legislative front-runners that have already put in place legal frameworks that govern when and how AI generated works can enjoy protection under the copyright law. Both Ukraine and the United Kingdom have put in place new legislation regulating AI-generated objects, while first steps have been taken within the EU as the European Parliament has proposed certain transparency requirements in the upcoming EU AI-act.
In this seminar we will explore the legislative initiatives emerging from Ukraine and the UK as well as what lessons can be drawn from these examples for the future regulation of AI generated works within the EU and in Sweden.
The seminar is open to the public, register to attend by e-mailing sandra.mattsson@umu.se no later than November 26 2023. A Zoom link will be sent out to registered attendees on the morning of the seminar.
