Contents
Core content of the course is, from an educational perspective, current changes and developments in the curriculum. Language and literacy are studied from an intercultural and gender point of view. The multicultural school is highlighted and problematized. The learning disabilities of pupils in the compulsory school and training schools are studied as well as ways and means to assist pupils with learning disabilities also form part of the course.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- describe change and development in the contemporary curriculum
- account for and discuss the challenges multicultural schools face
- identify and analyse language and literacy teaching/learning within the school
- account for the Swedish system for pupils with learning disabilities
Required Knowledge
Basic eligibility. Exception from demands on Swedish will be granted if the course is given in English.
Form of instruction
The forms of study are lectures, seminars and workshops.
Examination modes
Students at campus will be examined through their participation in lectures, seminars and workshops as well as in written assignments.
To pass the whole course it is required that all compulsory parts are passed.
The course work is examined at the ordinary examination or re-examined at a later occasion during the same semester. An opportunity to re-examine the course work is normally given in the following semester provided the student has requested it. After that a student with a fail is advised to participate in the next ordinary examination. Re-examinations based on the same curriculum are guaranteed within the two years of the first registration on the course.
A student has the right to change examiner for a course based on a written request to the head of department after two fails on the same course or a part of the course.
