Contents

Unit Description The Unit deals with the Swedish Education System, The Education Act and its fundamental democratic values. The National Curriculum with its goals and guidelines, the system of assessment and grading and the school and the surrounding world are studied and discussed, as well as a choice of syllaby relevant to the students taking part in the unit. The theoretical parts are integrated with field studies in schools according to requests for age levels and subjects

Expected learning outcomes

Goals to be reached by the student at the completion of the unit - To have sufficient knowledge about and understanding of the Swedish Education System and its fundamental values, in theory and practice. - To be able to discuss, analyse and compare different education systems, curricula and syllaby.

Form of instruction

Organization of the teaching The teaching will be delivered in the form of lectures, seminars and field studies. Attendance at the scheduled meetings is compulsory.

Examination modes

Assessment - A reflective journal - A short oral presentation of an optional aspect of education in the host country in comparison with a similar aspect in the native country. - An essay (2500 words)
