The objectives of this course is the organization, structure and function of the cell and its organelles. Different fundamental cellular processes will be discussed. A general theme will be signalling; how signals transverse the plasma membrane and how different cellular processes are affected. This will include receptor activation and transduction, effect on intracellular systems, intracellular transport of signals along the cytoskeleton and entry into the cell nucleus and effects on the gene level as well as how the cell responds to these signals. The practicals will allow the student to plan and design experiments independently as well as to interpret and present obtained experimental results both orally and in writing.
