Contents

The goal of the course is to give basic theoretical knowledge in the area of medicinal chemistry. This includes knowledge in interactions between low molecular weight compounds and proteins, DNA, and RNA, and methods for identification, design, synthesis, and evaluation of drug candidates.
After completion of the course the students shall be familiar with the processes involved in the development of a drug, have a detailed understanding of the concept of ligand-receptor interaction, possess basic knowledge in methods for medicinal and combinatorial chemistry, have a broad overview of drug uptake, metabolism, and secretion, and by oneself be able to retrieve chemical, biological, and medical information from databases.

Required Knowledge

Bioorganic Chemistry (15 credits, 5KE011) and Biochemistry (15 credits, 5KE020), or the equivalent. The course can not be combined with Medicinal Chemistry (15 credits, 5KE059/60) or Medicinal Chemistry (7,5 credits, 5KE066).
English proficiency equivalent to IELTS Academic Training -minimum score 5.0 with no individual score below 4.5 (Tests taken before January 2005 not admissible) or TOEFL - minimum score 500 on paper based test and not below 4.0 on the TWE, Alternatively 173 on computer based test with iBT61 is also required as well as basic entrance requirements for higher studies in Swedish language proficiency if the course in taught in Swedish.
