Contents
The object of the course is to provide sufficient knowledge in crystallography and X-ray diffraction to be able to understand and assimilate the content of a scientific structural paper and to be able to extract and use the chemical and structural information in the databases: ICSD (Inorganic Crystal Structure Database) and CSD (Cambridge Structural Database).
The course begins with fundamental crystallographic concepts. Then single-crystal- and powder-X-ray-diffraction theory is treated. The complete structural investigation of a crystalline material is carried through in the practice. The students are encouraged to use their own (preferably unknown) samples.
Required Knowledge
One of the courses: Aquatic Chemistry (15 ECTS, 5KE003/5KE002), Analytical Chemistry (15 ECTS, 5KE082/5KE081), Biophysical Chemistry (7.5 ECTS), Biochemistry (15 ECTS, 5KE075), Bioorganic Chemistry (15 ECTS, 5KE010/5KE011), or the equivalent.
