The goal of the course is that the students should learn about the properties of the sunlight and deepen their knowledge in solid state physics of semiconducting materials, especially silicon. The students should acquire knowledge of theoretical models of solar cells, both dry and wet, and obtain an understanding of problems and solutions of practical construction design.
The course starts with a description of the spectrum of the solar light and the conditions for using solar cells. Concepts such as band gap, barrier layer, Ohmic contact, degree of doping, reflection and absorption of light, optimized band gap, heterojunction, Schottky barrier, open circuit voltage, short circuit current and maximizing the power output, are treated.
Required Knowledge
Solid State Physics, or equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score
