Students who are interested in pursuing a research project and have at least 180hp, corresponding to 3 years academic training. Students choose their own supervisor; the course leader does not arrange such pairing.

Classes in oral presentation techniques and academic writing, biostatistics, information retrieval and literature handling, and research ethics. Included is also an information day about the graduate student status. It should be possible for the student to have these points acknowledged in the future graduate student education. Some classes are identical with the compulsory basic courses for Ph.D. students at the Medical Faculty. The schedule may vary between spring- and autumn term;

Independent research project of six months in a chosen research group. The supervisor needs to have a Ph.D. The project is summarized in a manuscript written according to the Instructions for Authors for the journal CELL. A letter to the editor will accompany this manuscript. In a 15-minute seminar on a specified presentation day at the end of the semester, the student will present the project and also act as an opponent for one of the classmates.

Examination modes
Both, the project report and the presentation are examined by the supervisor as well as by the course organizer. Grades for the report are passed with distinction, passed or not passed. Attendance of the classes is required in order to pass the course. The course organizer decides upon acknowledgement of any previous training
