Contents
The course provides both a theoretical and an applied introduction to statistical demography. Applications will use data from both the historical and modern population databases available at the university.
Expected learning outcomes
After completing this course, students should:
- Be able to describe different sources of population data;
- Be able to explain the concepts and measures that are central to statistical demography;
- Be able to analyze demographic data using appropriate statistical methods;
- Be able to perform simple projections of population development.
Required Knowledge
Univ: 15 ECTS advanced level in statistics or equivalent.
Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B (IELTS (Academic)
with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and no individual score below 5.5. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based
Test) with a minimum score of 575 and a minimum TWE score of 4.5). TOEFL iBT (Internet-based
Test) with a minimum score of 90 and a minimum score of 20 on the Writing Section).
Form of instruction
The course is to a large extent based on the students' own work with the literature and active participation in lectures, seminars and computer exercises.
Examination modes
The examination consists of oral and written presentations.
