Contents

The Master’s thesis in International Social Welfare is an independent research project in which the student first develops a theoretical model based on an in-depth literature review and proposes research hypotheses or research questions. Next, the student examines these hypotheses/questions empirically, using quantitative or qualitative research methods. In the thesis, the student is expected to demonstrate acquired research skills within the field of Social Welfare and apply these skills to her/his own research work. The student will be expected to connect theoretical perspectives and explanations with empirical data, make in-depth analyses and draw conclusions relevant for the research field. Theoretical, empirical and methodological skills will also be the basis for the student’s task of serving as a discussant for a fellow student’s thesis in a final seminar. The topic of the thesis, as well as theory and methodology, will be selected in cooperation with an individual tutor, who will supervise the student.
