The course includes issues concerning migration, integration and ethnic relations in social work. The potential possibilities and obstacles associated with these key-concepts and phenomenon are problematized at individual- and group-level. Structural conditions and social stratifications like gender, class, and generation are in focus for learning about migration- and integration experiences. Moreover, issues dealt with are, understanding migration-movement, mobility, transnationality, social and human rights associated with migration and flight and other needs for international and national protection. Also discussed in the course are various kinds of processes like segregation, rasisms and factors hindering or facilitating social integration. Moreover, the course deals with how norms, values, symbols, identity and diaspora influences ethnic relations.
At the end of the course the student shall:
A minimum of 90 ECTS within the social sciences education in the following subjects: social work, sociology, Psychology, Peace and conflict studies, pedagogic, Gender Studies and social geography, Political science, Law/legal Science or in other courses that are considered equal to thus above, including an individual essay carrying at least 15 credits or 90 ECTS within nursing including an individual essay carrying at least 15 credits. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A/5 or comparable is also required
The course consists of theoretical analytical, self-reflective and applicable activities with opportunities for students' to make selections of a number of in depth profiles with relevancy for the course. Work-modes provided in the course are built on student-active engagement. The instructor-led teaching is foremost provided through lectures and seminars. Other teaching-modes provided during the course are written assignments, group-discussions and peer-group evaluations. . Seminars, written assignments and peer assessment are mandatory. A student who has been accepted and registered for the course has the right to teaching and guidance only during the term/academic year when he/she was and registered.
Examination modes
Examination takes place through the following course elements:
For component 1, 2 and 4 the grades Fail (U) or Pass (G) can be awarded. For component 3 the grades awarded are Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG). A passing grade on the activities under components 1-4 above are required to receive a passing grade for the course as a whole.Completing grades for the course, are Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (AB). Completing grade for the course is based on the result of the individual written assignment (paper) and awarded after the completion of all compulsory course elements.
The appointed examiner may decide to use other forms of examination if required by particular circumstances.
A student who has not received a passing grade on a test will be afforded an opportunity for re-examination.
A student who has passed examination may not be re-examined. A student who has taken two tests for a course or segment of a course, without passing, has the right to have another examiner appointed, unless special reasons exist. A written request for change of examiner is submitted to the Director of Undergraduate Education.
If the student has a certificate of special pedagogical support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adjusted form of examination.
Written assignments should be in accordance with academically accepted forms and must be of a good linguistic standard.
