Contents
The course provides an overview of basic planning theory and urban theory and applies spatial concepts and theories in practical planning issues. The spatial analyses is applied in the GIS-tool which is used in accordance with the student’s individual knowledge level. The planning issues during the course emphasizes Swedish and European planning on different geographical levels and in a comparative perspective. More general planning challenges such as participatory planning, sustainable development and planning, the legitimacy of planning, multi-level (governance) planning etc is also dealt with during the course. Urban theory constitutes an essential part of the course content were the economic-geographical, spatial and social perspectives are some of the central issues.
Expected learning outcomes
Required Knowledge
Univ: 120 ECTS, 60 ECTS of which in a major field of subject, including 7,5 ECTS in quantitative methods, or equivalently.
Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.
Form of instruction
The course is based on lectures, seminars and group exercises. Some of the group exercises are in the form of practical field work while others are more theoretical. Relevant gender issues related to the contents are continuously integrated in the course. The course is given in English.
