Contents

The course provides an extensive overview of the theoretical foundations for qualitative methods within social sciences in general and in human geography in particular. The course elaborates on a number of important qualitative methodological approaches where place, space and identity constitute central concepts. During the course, different qualitative approaches are discussed and analysed applied on different empirical materials.

 

 

Expected learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to

 

Required Knowledge

Univ: 120 ECTS, 60 ECTS of which in a major field of subject, including 7,5 ECTS in quantitative methods, or equivalently.

Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.

Form of instruction

The teaching during the course is mainly based on a combination of lectures, assignments and seminars. A substantial part of the teaching is given as supervised group exercises in the computer laboratory or as individual supervision. There will also be guest lectures and/or educational visits. Relevant gender aspects will be dealt with during the course. The teaching is in English.
