The course comprises an independently written thesis work. From a limited number of subjects the student chooses a thesis subject provided by the supervisors.
Expected learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be able to
- conclude scientific theories
- apply different methods in an empirical field-study
- carry through a minor, scientific investigation
- write a minor scientific study
- critically evaluate a minor, scientific thesis
Required Knowledge
Univ: 180 ECTS, 90 ECTS of wich in human geography or equivalently.
Basic requirements for university studies in English equivalent to English A from Swedish Upper Secondary School.
Form of instruction
The teaching consists of seminars and individual supervision. The seminars are compulsory. All teaching is normally given in English.
Examination modes
Both written and oral exams are used. Apart from grading of the written thesis examination is carried out through compulsory seminars, where the student defends his/her thesis and carries out an opposition. Moreover, the student shall attend three additional seminars. In order to achieve the grade Pass with distinction it is required that the thesis is examined during the first semester of registration on the course.
Examination based on the same syllabus as at the ordinary examination is guaranteed during two years after the first registration to the course.
Students who have passed an examination cannot redo the examination to receive a higher grade.
It is not possible to appeal against a received grade, i.e. to get it examined by a higher authority, but a student can always criticize the grading or ask another examiner to reconsider the examination.
When a student has failed an examination on two occasions, he or she has a right to have another grading teacher. A written request for an alternative examiner should be handed to the director of studies.

Credit transfer is always examined individually.
