The purpose of the internship course is for students to have the opportunity to put prior knowledge and experience into applied business work. The student should in practical work test, develop and consolidate their knowledge and skills in their specialized topic. The course also aims to develop the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others, as well as to develop the ability in oral and written communication.
The student will work under equal terms and conditions at a particular workplace. For the purpose of this course to be achieved, it is important that student gets the opportunity to work with a wider duty; a project, an investigative assignment, a survey or similar that is of benefit for the current workplace and the student's own practice of theory to practical work. The task should be such that the student is able to put prior learning and experience into applied business work. As in the program education on advanced level the problem formulation, data collection, analysis, and oral as well as written presentation are important elements.
A supervisor is appointed both at Umeå School of Business and Economics and at the workplace.
The course is also expected to give the student an opportunity to form an opinion about the future labor market opportunities and the possibility to build a personal network.
It is possible for students to arrange their own internship. Umeå School of Business and Economics must approve the internship. Students who are placed on the reserve list, and who have organized and an approved internship on their own, can be ranked higher in the list of reserves.
