The course gives a general over-view of Swedish intellectual history, in its European context, from ca. 1000 AD to present day. The main focus is on the period 17th to 20th century. The course deals with different intellectual environments, such as monasteries/the church, universities and scientific academies. Attention will also be given to social movements, the ideas behind the modern welfare state as well as arguments against it.

Expected learning outcomes

Form of instruction

Teaching will be given as tutorials and seminars. Unless otherwise stated or agreed, all tutorials and seminars are obligatory.

Examination modes

Examination will include written reports and individual essays. The final grade will be based on an overall assessment of the students performance in the examinations and will be awarded when all of the compulsory modules are passed. ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER Academic credit transfers are reviewed individually.
