Contents
The main focus is on the Viking Age in Scandinavia, a period of great changes (800-1050). The course deals with Viking society, gender issues, the establishment of the international trading net work, religion and religious change. The exploration of the outside world and the Vikings impact on other cultures will also be discussed, as well as other cultures influence on Scandinavian society at the time. The teachers are historians and archaeologists.
Expected learning outcomes
After the course the student is expected to:
- have an overall knowledge of Scandinavian societies during the period 800 1050.
- be able to discuss social, political and religious changes in Scandinavia during the period
- be able to discuss living conditions among people from a class and gender perspective
- know what sources the archaeological and historical interpretations are based upon

Teaching is conducted through internet.
Examination modes
Examination will include written reports and individual essays. The grade is an overall assessment of the performance at the various examinations and is awarded first when all of the compulsory modules are passed.
