The course deals with the historiography of western society. Its focus is on how history as a subject has developed and changed over time. Different ways of explaining the past will be discussed as well as how historians from different historical traditions have argued.
Expected learning outcomes

- the student will have achieved knowledge about the roots of modern day historiography
Required Knowledge
Univ: History C or similar.
Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT
(Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score of 17 on the Writing Section).
Where the language of instruction is Swedish, applicants must prove proficiency in Swedish to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies.
Examination modes
Examination will include written reports and individual essays. The grade is an overall assessment of the performance at the various examinations and is awarded first when all of the compulsory modules are passed. Students who do not pass at the time of the normal written examination will be offered an opportunity to sit a further examination.
When a student has failed an examination on two occations, he or she has
a right to have another examiner. A written request should be handed to the Faculty Board.
