Contents
This course will investigate the potential role of artistic methods in the specific situation in Kiruna today. Part of the city must be moved owing to the mine industry and parts of old city spaces will be left. At the same time new public spaces will be built. The course focuses on questions of identity and representation in the public space and develop criteria for public Art Works.
-1 Preparations, 1,5ECTS. The project and the literature are presented, students start sketching and make other preparations.
-2 Seminar in Kiruna, 3ECTS. An intense seminar in Kiruna with excursions in town, the mine and the region, methodolocial lectures by international guests, individual artistic investigations and three public debates.
-3 Project work, 3ECTS. The investigative work is evolved into artistic presentations. Criteria for Sculpture- and Public Art projects are presented.
Expected learning outcomes
After the course the student will have
- knowledge about the town of Kirunas exceptional situation
- knowledge of artistic methods to investigate a place
- skills and abilities to artistically investigate and describe a place
Form of instruction
The course contains lectures, excursions, seminars and project work.
Examination modes
Examination by presentation of the Art works at a seminar. Students that have failed twice can request at the Faculty of Arts, for another examinator to be appointed.
