In 1999 the Buddy Programme was started at Umeå University. Since then, thousands of international and domestic students, have met and made friendships for life. How would you describe your time as a Buddy Programme Coordinator?
Amazing! The best time of my life.
What’s your best memory from your time in the Buddy Programme?
This is a hard one, I have so many amazing memories. A non specific memory is all the amazing students I got to meet and spend time with as well as having amazing colleagues. If I try to be more specific on the other hand, I mean meeting my Girlfriend is a no-brainer, but except from that I think that the Christmas Dinner me and Malin (the other Buddy Coordinator) organized was a highlight. I think both of us was worried how well it would be received. Especially some videos that we made for the evening but in the end people loved it so... yay us haha.
Approximately how many students were involved in the Buddy Programme then?
I would estimate roughly 1600 including international students and students from Umea.
What kind of activities were popular?
Soccer Tournament, Elk Farm, Hockey Trip & International Pub nights.
What happened after your time as a Buddy Programme Coordinator?
I moved to Canada.
What are you doing now? Living where? Working with or studying? Etc.

As I said, I moved to Canada and I have lived here since August 2015. I received my permanent residency card in the fall of 2018. I currently work at a company called SkipTheDishes (Same type of company as Doordash, UberEats, Grubhub etc) as a Training & Development Specialist.
Do you have contact with anyone you met in the Buddy Programme then?
Yes, actually quite a few! I have one my best friends from the programme living in Canada as for the others I talk to some of them from time to time and see some of them when I'm back visiting Sweden.
