General

The education is organized for full-time studies in an educational program that spans six semesters (180 credits). The program is conducted as on-campus education (Umeå) or as distance education (Skellefteå and Örnsköldsvik) with meetings at the study location, according to the respective course plan. For those admitted to distance education, there may be an opportunity to change study location to a number of specified locations within the agreement area. The number of places at each location will be limited.

Nursing is the main field within the nursing profession. A model for nursing is included as a theoretical framework throughout the program. Semester 1 focuses on the nursing profession and its core competencies as well as knowledge of basic nursing. Furthermore, medical science is included as a basis for health and illness as well as for treatment. In semesters 2-4, knowledge in nursing is broadened and deepened from a health and public health perspective. Semesters 5-6 focus on consolidating knowledge from previous semesters and developing skills in leadership and quality improvement.

Clinical training is to be carried out within the institution's/faculty's agreement areas, Västerbotten or parts of Västernorrland where a place guarantee can be given. Clinical training is conducted within municipal, regional, or private health care. In connection with clinical training, the institution's teachers, students, and clinical supervisors/main supervisors collaborate on planning, content, implementation, and follow-up. Clinical training may involve scheduled time during evenings, weekends, and possibly nights.

The nursing program has bilateral agreements with universities and colleges around the world, enabling internationalization through studies abroad via exchange programs. Studies abroad are preferably carried out during semesters 4, 5, and 6.

Mandatory courses are the courses that all students within the program normally take. A student who follows the educational program is guaranteed a place in all mandatory courses provided that the eligibility requirements for the current course are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective course plan.

Under the heading "Study Plan," the courses included in the program are listed in the order they are taken.
