Entry Requirements

Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6. A Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, 180 ECTS) from an internationally recognised university. Special requirements: 90 ECTS in one of the following subjects; Informatics, Business Administration, Pedagogy, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Computer Science, (or equivalent).

Degree

After completing the program, 60 credits, students may, on application, obtain a Filosofie Magisterexamen in accordance with the Local Qalifications Ordinance approved by the Vice Chancellor (see Umeå university's website)

Filosofie Magisterexamen translates in English to Degree of Master of Science 60 credits. The degree is awarded in the main field of study, Informatics with specialisation in Digital management and innovation.
After completing the program, 120 credits, students may, on application, obtain a Filosofie Masterexamen in accordance with the Local Qualifications Ordinance approved by the Vice Chancellor (see Umeå university's website).

Filosofie Masterexamen translates in English to Degree of Master of Science 120 credits. The degree is awarded in the main field of study, Informatics with specialisation in Digital management and innovation.

Description of the education for current education cycle

This education is offered on second cycle level. The targets for second-cycle courses and study programmes can be found in Chapter 1, Section 9 of the Higher Education Act.

Transfer of Credits

Student who considers themselves to possess knowledge from previous relevant studies or professional or vocational experience that can be comparable to a course or part of a course in the study programme, can apply for transfer of credits. Approved transfer of credits means that the student does not need to take the or those parts of the education that the decision covers. Information about transfer of credits can be found on Umeå University's web site.

General

The teaching takes place in English and the course literature is in English. The examination on some courses requires good knowledge of academic writing. The program overview shows which courses are compulsory, elective or free. Compulsory courses are the courses that all students within the program normally take. A student who follows the education program is guaranteed a place on all compulsory courses, provided that the eligibility requirements for the current course are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective syllabus.

Elective courses are a selection of courses that Umeå university offers within the framework of the program and where the students choose which of these courses they should register for. The student is guaranteed a place on elective courses, provided that the eligibility requirements for the courses are met. However, the student is not guaranteed a place on their first-hand choice of course. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective syllabus.

Free courses within the program are applied for in open competition. Free courses can be taken at Umeå university or other universities in Sweden or abroad.

Thesis
For a Degree of Master of Science 60 credits the student must have completed a thesis within the program encompassing at least 15 credits in Informatics with specialization in Digital Management and Innovation.

For a Degree of Master of Science 120 credits the student must have completed a thesis within the program encompassing 30 credits in Informatics with specialization in Digital Management and Innovation.

The thesis may comprise of less than 30 credits (a minimum of 15 credits) if the student has already completed an independent work in the second cycle of at least 15 credits in Informatics with specialisation in Digital Management and Innovation or equivalent from an international education.
