ImagePrivateWhat made you interested in applying to the program here in Umeå?
A master’s in finance is only taught in a few places here in Sweden. I became interested in the program here in Umeå due to the courses taught in the program. Furthermore, the courses I would be able to take in addition to the mandatory courses. Previously I studied on a small campus, so I wanted to attend a larger university. Personally, the closeness to nature is a big bonus!
What is it that you like with the program so far?
The application of theory to real-world events makes it easier to understand and critically evaluate the situation. This gives a good foundation to be able to apply theoretical knowledge in the future.
What is the most interesting thing you have learned in your program so far?
During the first semester, I learned many interesting things, but the most valuable tool was the critical thinking aspect. I have learned to analyze annual reports and understand the consequences of a lack of financial planning. The risk management course highlighted the importance of financial planning.
What do you like to do in Umeå during your free time?
Outdoor activities, there's nothing better than being out in nature. Whether it's hiking, cross-country skiing, a sauna, or winter bathing, there are plenty of ways to have fun. Additionally, exploring different restaurants and bars can help you find the perfect hangout spot.
What advice would you give to a student thinking of applying to this program?
My suggestion is that you apply for the program as soon as possible and add your name to the waiting list for student accommodation. Additionally, it's important to be prepared to work hard from the beginning to ensure that you keep up with the pace of your studies. The first semester is an exam that takes place after the course is finished, which may be a new experience for you if you haven't studied in Sweden before.
What are your plans after graduation?
The future is always hard to plan for, there are many different avenues to take. The two most interesting I’m considering now are further education and wealth management.
