We have gathered all information that you will need during your studies at our student website of USBE.
Here you will find information about schedules, contact information, exams, internship, thesis, studies abroad, degrees and career.
(Click on the MENU at the top right-hand corner of the webpage to access the different information).
During the first semester of the programme you will study a 30 credit course called "Financial Management D, 30 Credits".
The course syllabus with the expected learning outcomes and literature list is one and the same for the whole course (= the first semester). You will study the course from 2 September 2024 until 19 January 2025.
The course syllabus can be found here.
The course "Financial Management D, 30 Credits" consists of four different modules of 7.5 credits that you study for five weeks each in sequence one after the other.
About your first module
The first module is called "Advanced financial statement analysis and valuation, 7.5 credits" (That is also the name of the first schedule).
Each module has a separate schedule that will be published one month before the start of the specific module on the schedule webpage (see above).
Course and module platform
We use an educational platform for these modules called Canvas.
In Canvas you will find all the information you need for this module such as the instructions for assignments, list of module participants and messages from the teacher.
There will also be a Canvas page for the whole program where I will post important information to you as a student at the program.
Remember that in order to start the first course and first module of that course you must first be registered. This will be done when you arrive.
Housing
It is important that you start looking for housing immediately. It is very difficult to find housing on short notice.
In Umeå a lot of landlords use queue systems, so it’s recommended that you sign up for the housing queues as soon as possible. You start accumulating queue-time from the first day that you create a personal page.
Read about finding accommodation in Umeå on the page Finding Accommodation. Here you will find information about different housing queues and where to look for accommodation.
If you are a fee-paying student, you will get offered housing through Umeå University’s Housing Office (HO).
Checklist for admitted students
Follow this simple list of things to complete your enrolment at Umeå University. It includes: how to secure housing, getting a residence permit (for citizens from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland), tuition payment (if applicable), travel directions and more.
The Student web
The website for current students has all sorts of information about services, support, legal and practical matters at Umeå University. You can sign in to the learning platforms, see your schedule and course overview, get a study certificate, apply for a degree or sign up for an examination.
Recommended arrival times
International students are recommended to arrive at least a few days before the start of the regular semester, preferably prior to the Orientation. If you fail to arrive on time, you have to contact the study counselor as soon as possible, but no later than one week ahead of the course start, or you may not be able to register for the programme or course.
If you will have student housing through the Housing Office at Umeå University you will receive information about your arrival in your offer of housing.
Don't forget - Umeå has cold winters, so pack accordingly with a warm jacket, warm shoes, gloves and hat.
Orientation
Moving to a new country with an unfamiliar language, culture and customs can be a challenge. We would like to help you and ease that challenge so that you can focus on your studies. Therefore, we would like to offer you the possibility to take part in our Orientation, which begins a few days before the start of the semester (Autumn) or the same day as the semester starts (Spring).
