Irina Alexeyeva
Assistant Professor in Accounting.
What is your research about?
My research focuses on audit fees, audit quality, financial reporting, bankruptcy companies and the role of corporate governance.
What is the strength of our master programme?
- The program provides a deep insight into closely related fields, Accounting and Finance. The combination of knowledge from both fields contributes to better understanding of financial aspects of the business as well as creates a greater opportunities for the future career.
My research is in the fields of auditing and education for sustainable development (ESD), with a focus on audit teams and audit quality as well as integrating ESD in higher education. The title of my dissertation is Audit Teams and Audit Quality: A Sustainable Development Goal Perspective, which includes four articles about audit team equality and well-being.
My research interest focuses on intangible firm value. Recent projects explore the relationship between corporate disclosures, sustainability performance and taxation practices, from the perspective of legitimacy theory and sustainable enterprise theory.
What is the strength of our master programme?
A strength with the program is that the master students are encouraged to develop approaches of firm value that focus on intangibles, in relation with sustainability performance and tax planning.
The purpose of my research is to study the translation of Sustainability for Swedish Public Municipal Housing Companies and see how institutional logics is affecting the translation of sustainability. I'm doing a qualitative case study with an institutional theory perspective with an emphasis on the sustainability reporting process and the refurbishment process for Public Municipal Housing Companies. I'm a part of the Industrial Doctoral School at Umeå university and my thesis is funded by the Industrial Doctoral School and AB Bostaden.
Rickard Olsson
Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance.
What is your your research about?
I do analytical and empirical research in accounting and finance. My Ph.D. dissertation is on mean-variance and index fund optimization under transaction costs. A recent project covers accounting-based valuation under conservative accounting in a stochastic setting. Several of my studies are related to sustainability including ones on responsible investment strategies, the impact of environmental incidents on stock prices, and socially responsible investment behavior among parents and adult children; the last two studies are published in Applied Financial Economics and European Economic Review, respectively.
Stefan Sundgren
Professor in Accounting.
What is your your research about?
My research interests relates to the fields of auditing and financial accounting, with a specific focus issues related to insolvency. I do work about auditors’ going-concern reporting, bankruptcy prediction and issues related to manager traits and firms’ behavior prior to bankruptcy. I also research about fair value accounting and have published in leading journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research and European Accounting Review.
What is the strength of our master programme?
The program offers a specialization in accounting and at the same time good possibilities to use elective and minor courses to attain a personalized specialization.
His research interest is auditing with a special focus on audit teams and individual auditor characteristics. Recent and ongoing projects involve studying audit quality implications of team composition and structure, resource allocation in teams, disciplinary sanctions and standards, non-audit services and auditor switching. He has published in leading accounting and auditing journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory and European Accounting Review.

The program offers a specialization in accounting as well as opportunities to study related topics of personal interest and value. The specialization covers key aspects in financial accounting, management accounting, valuation and auditing.
