The course gives an overview of Swedens economic geography. The course includes the countrys special features with regard to economic geography as well as Sweden´s position in the EU and the world economy. The characteristics of industry and business life, the location patterns of industry, trade flows, and how the economy patterns have changed over time are aspects of the economic geography of Sweden. Other themes are the countrys financial system, influx of foreign ideas and values, and basic knowledge about gender equality.
Expected learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should have knowledge of
- the basic structure of the Swedish economy,
- the localization of the Swedish industry both historically and present,
- the trade flows between Sweden and other countries,
- Sweden´s position in the EU and the world economy
- the influx of foreign ideas and values,
- basic knowledge about gender equality in Sweden.

After completing the course the student should have knowledge of

- basic knowledge about gender equality in Sweden.
Examination modes
Students are required to document and present results of their group work. They are also required to pass a written examination. Students who fail the scheduled examination have the right to re-sit the examination a couple of weeks later. The general system is U for fail, G for pass and VG for pass with distinction. Upon request students may receive the grades A-FX. A student who has failed two consecutive examinations has the right to get another examiner unless there are specific reasons against this (HF Ch.6 §11B). Students are not permitted to retake an exam they have already passed in order to attempt to raise their grade.
