Microbiology and Basic Molecular Biology

About the course

The course consists of three modules:
Module 1. Theory, 8 ECTS. 
The module addresses molecular processes which control growth, structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. It focusses on the flow of genetic information according to the Central dogma, in particular regulation of transcription, translation, and DNA replication. Basic prokaryotic genetics, including transfer of genetic material, bacterial physiology including resistance mechanisms for antibiotics are also covered.

Module 2. Laborations 5 ECTS. 
The module offers training in microbiological and molecular biology work methodology.

Module 3. Practical Professional Training professionell (PPT) - Oral presentation, 2 ECTS. 
The module offers training in finding, reading, discussing and presenting scientific original literature in Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

Required Knowledge

20 ECTS in Chemistry, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry, or alternatively, 20 ECTS from a combination of  courses in Chemistry and Physics and/or Mathematics, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry.

Selection

Students applying for courses within a double degree exchange agreement, within the departments own agreements will be given first priority. Then will - in turn - candidates within the departments own agreements, faculty agreements, central exchange agreements and other departmental agreements be selected.
