The course includes lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory work. The theoretical part covers the organization and development of the immune system, its activation upon stimulation, the various effector mechanisms involved in the innate and adaptive immune responses (cellular and humoral immunity), immunological memory, tolerance mechanisms, transplantation immunology, autoimmunity, hypersensitivity, immune deficiencies, and the defense mechanisms against different pathogens. The course also includes interpretation of experimental primary data, and discussion and presentation of scientific literature. The practical work includes immune related techniques such as antibody based detection methods. All parts of the course except lectures are mandatory.

20 credits from completed courses in chemistry, of which at least 5 credits in biochemistry, or 20 credits from a combination of completed courses in chemistry and physics and / or mathematics, of which at least 5 credits in biochemistry; 60 credits from completed courses in biology, these credits must contain molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and physiology; documented proficiency in experimental work comprising at least 5 credits.

Students applying for courses within a double degree exchange agreement, within the departments own agreements will be given first priority. Then will - in turn - candidates within the departments own agreements, faculty agreements, central exchange agreements and other departmental agreements be selected.
