Contents

The course aim is that the student will acquire knowledge of the importance of molecular mechanisms behind transcription control, signal transduction, cell cycle control, and cell differentiation in tumour development. Signal transduction and cell cycle control are conserved processes found in almost all eucaryotic organisms. The area of molecular cell biology has developed dramatically through genetic studies using simple model systems, and is now of fundamental importance for the understanding of tumour-related diseases. The aim is that the student will get sufficient knowledge of genetic model systems and general biological regulatory systems to understand scientific articles within molecular cell and tumour biology. The experimental training includes work with different model organisms and methodology for the study of transcription control, signal transduction, and cell differentiation and proliferation.

Required Knowledge

180 ECTS from finished courses containing at least 60 ECTS in Biology including Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Animal Physiology and at least 7.5 ECTS in Genetics; 20 ECTS from finished courses in Chemistry; documented practical experience of laboratory work comprising a minimum of 30 ECTS. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.
