The course focuses on fundamental plasma physics with an emphasis on space plasmas. The course contains Debye screening, perturbation theory for particle motion, magnetohydrodynamics, plasmas in space, Alfvén waves, ambipolar diffusion, ion-acoustic waves, kinetic theory, electron plasma waves and nonlinear phenomena as for example solitons and shock waves.
90 credits including Analytical Mechanics and Electrodynamics, or equivalent. Proficiency in English and Swedish equivalent to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies. Requirements for Swedish only apply if the course is held in Swedish.
