Contents

The aim for the course is trough practical work experience Swedish sloyd-culture. During the course we will focus on traditional woodworking techniques. The course targets primarily on people from other cultures with focus on introducing Swedish culture and tradition in sloyd. We will work practically with handheld tools, how they are operated and their maintenance. Safety in the workshop is another important part of the course.
 
Focus during the course besides traditional woodworking techniques and caring for the tools will be on shape, color and expression trough practice in fresh and dry wood. Specific areas in woodworking will be introduced during the course. Construktion, aesthetical principles and sustainability will be concerned.

Expected learning outcomes

For a passing grade, the student must be able to

Knowledge and understanding:

- Describe and apply different techniques within wood sloyd.
- Form an idea in material.
- Work safely in a workshop.
 
Skills and abilities:
 
- Show ability to work the different processes of sloyd.
- Have the ability to complete your practical work.

Judgement and approach:
 
- Be able to evaluate your own and other sloydartifacts from Swedish traditions.
- Be able to iterpret  sloydartifacts from a historical perspective.
