Project work in medical technology includes an independent, experimentally oriented deepening task within the medical technology subject that connects to the activities that exist at a research institution, a public administration, or a technology company. The student's professional development is supported through individual supervision. The course includes planning, carrying out experimental tasks, processing data, compiling results, interpreting and analyzing data, and writing a report in the format of a scientific paper. The course also includes searching for literature relevant to the project as well as evaluating and compiling the literature.

University: A total of 180 credits, of which 20 credits in medical technology, advanced level, or equivalent. English A/6 and Swedish for basic eligibility for university studies if the education is given in Swedish.
The student participates in a specified research project and carries out in-depth project work within this, under the guidance of a scientific supervisor. The student also completes self-studies about the theoretical background by reading scientific literature. Participation in activities within the research environment in connection with the project that develop the student's scientific approach. The project work corresponds to 10 weeks of full-time work. The teaching can be given wholly or partly in English.
The student must have a supervisor at Umeå University. If the work is carried out at another workplace, an assistant supervisor at this workplace must also be appointed.
A concise project plan containing a definition of the project's purpose and specific objectives, a work plan where methods are specifically stated and a timetable must be approved two weeks before the start of the course.
The student completes an oral report that is assessed individually with Fail (U) or Pass (G). The student also submits a scientific report which is graded Fail (U), Pass (G) or Passed (VG).
The entire course is given one of the grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Well passed (VG). The grade is based on the grade obtained on the scientific report and is only assigned when both examinations (oral presentation and scientific report) are approved.
A student who has received a passing result may not take a new exam.
The examiner can decide on deviations from the examination form of the syllabus. Individual adaptation of the form of examination must be considered based on the student's needs. The form of examination is adapted within the framework of the curriculum's expected study results. A student who needs an adapted examination, and who has received a decision on the right to support from the coordinator for students with disabilities at the Student Centre, must request adaptation from the institution responsible for the course no later than 10 days before the examination. The examiner decides on an adapted examination, which is then notified to the student.
In the event that the course plan ceases to apply or undergoes major changes, students are guaranteed at least three exam opportunities (including regular exam opportunities) according to the regulations in the course plan in which the student was originally course registered for a maximum of two years from the time the previous course plan ceased to apply.
