WELCOME TO THE COURSE

Programming in Python: Code Quality and Best Practices

Welcome to the course Programming in Python: Code Quality and Best Practices! You have been admitted to the course, but before you can begin your studies there are a few things you are required to do first, see instructions below. If you have any questions regarding your course, you are most welcome to contact us. You will find our contact information below. We wish you a warm welcome to the course and hope that you will enjoy your studies at Umeå University.

How to start

  • 1. Reply to your offer

Have you been admitted to a course or programme, but do not wish to keep your place? Then you should decline your offer by logging in to your account at Universityadmissions.se. In doing so, you free up your place to someone who is on the waiting list.

    Support for students with disabilities

If you are in need of special support due to disability, you should apply for that in good time before you start your studies. Find more information about support for studying with disabilities.

  • 2. Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

    • register for courses
    • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
    • submit assignments and verify your study results
    • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

I want to activate my user account and install MFA

Exchange student or tuition fee paying student

If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.

    Help! It´s not working

If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.

  • 3. Course registration

    Online registration for the course

In order to begin your studies, you need to register for the course in Ladok via the student webb: https://www.umu.se/en/student/ You will find the Ladok link beneath your course or at the bottom left of the page. You need to be registered for the course in the study documentation system to be able to follow the course and to get your results recorded during the course.

To be able to sign in to the student web and register online, you need to have activated your Umu-id user account (see the heading "New at Umeå University" below for more information).

Online registration in the student web is open from one week before course starts and closes when the course begins (See information under the heading "Course start" below). It is important that you sign in to the student web and register during that time period, otherwise, you risk losing your place in the course.

Note that if you have been "conditionally" admitted, we will check if your application meets the course requirements. About a week before the course starts you will be contacted through email if you lack required knowledge. If not, you will be able to register in line with the procedure described above.

You will gain access to the online learning platform Canvas within a day after you have registered for the course.

If you do not want to register for the course, you do not need to contact us directly. Instead, please decline your offer at Universityadmissions.se This notifies the university that you will not be attending and makes the place available to another applicant.

    Time: Anytime during the day

You will gain access to the online learning platform Canvas within a day after you have registered for the course.
