Contents
The course deals with the dental hygienist´s professional responsibility related to patient´s different life stages from the beginning of the life to old age.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
Students must be able to
Describe the oral health importance for quality of life related to science and own profession
Describe the importance of and impact on oral health in case of diseases and functional variations in children and elderly people
Describe the meaning of violence in close relationships in vulnerable groups with focus on children and elderly
Judgement and approach
Students must be able to
Show the ability to identify her/his further need of knowledge in order to develop competence within the area
Required Knowledge
Incoming exchange student, admitted to a Dental Hygienist program, who has completed and passed at least 2/3 of their education at their home university.
Form of instruction
The education is given through literature studies, lectures and seminars. At absence from compulsory parts, the teacher responsible for the course should be contacted and will decide how the missing part should be completed.
Examination modes
Examinations will be based on both individual oral presentations and in groups as individual performance in groups.
To get the grade "Pass" the student must have participated in the mandatory parts, or equivalent, and approved theoretical tests, practical tests and seminar assignments. To pass the course (9 ECTS credits), all sub-examinations must be approved.
The student has the right to change the examiner after two failed examinations. Requests for the replacement of examiners are submitted in writing to The program council for the dental hygienist, dentist and dental technician programs (PRO).
The student who has failed in a test or not participated at the first regular examination shall be given the opportunity to participate in additional tests within three months. The student who has failed twice has the right to request from the Programme Council that another examiner should be appointed. The student has the right to be examined on the same syllabus as in regular exams on at least two occasions up to two years after the first registration. Exceptions to this rule may be, for example, when the course has undergone fundamental changes.
The student who has been failed in the regular examination has the right to undergo a re-examination four times. Three examination sessions are given per course round. If the student is still failing after three examinations, the student can apply to take the course a second time. The application is sent to The program council for the dental hygienist, dentist and dental technician programs (PRO). The student who has completed a total of five examinations but has not been approved is given no further opportunity and cannot be re-accepted.
Examiners may decide to deviate from the modes of assessment in the course syllabus. Individual adaptation of modes of assessment must give due consideration to the student's needs. The adaptation of modes of assessment must remain within the framework of the intended learning outcomes in the course syllabus. Students who require an adapted examination - and have received a decision on the right to support from the coordinator at the Student Services Office for students with disabilities - must submit a request to the department holding the course no later than 10 days before the examination. The examiner decides on the adaptation of the examination, after which the student will be notified.
