Microbial Pathogenesis, Symptoms and Diagnostic Procedures
6 credits
About the course
Learning outcomes for the course include:
The student should be able to describe basic mechanisms of emergence and development of infectious diseases and give manifestations in the form of molecular, physiological and morphological changes that may occur.
Further, the student should be able to compare different microbial infection strategies and explain how infectious diseases or their manifestations can be diagnosed.
The course contains sections that include the pathogenicity and virulence of different microorganisms (bacteria, virus, fungus, protozoans), how different symptoms arise, how host and microorganism interact and also the principles of diagnosis and prophylaxis.
