WELCOME TO THE COURSE

Master's Thesis in Business Administration II

A warm welcome to studies at the Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics! In this welcome letter, you will find important information that you need before the course starts.

How to start

  • 1. Reply to your offer

Have you been admitted to a course or programme, but do not wish to keep your place? Then you should decline your offer by logging in to your account at Universityadmissions.se. In doing so, you free up your place to someone who is on the waiting list.

    Support for students with disabilities

If you are in need of special support due to disability, you should apply for that in good time before you start your studies. Find more information about support for studying with disabilities.

  • 2. Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

    • register for courses
    • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
    • submit assignments and verify your study results
    • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

I want to activate my user account and install MFA

Exchange student or tuition fee paying student

If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.

    Help! It´s not working

If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.

  • 3. Course registration

You need to register on campus, open between September 15 to Novemeber 1. To be able to sign the registration list you need to come by our office at the program advisor corridor.

It is important that you register within the timeframe and according to this instruction. If you do not register as instructed you will lose your seat at the course.

  • 4. Course start

    The course starts November 1

    Time: According to agreement

    Location: According to agreement

The schedule will be planned together with your supervisor.

    Thesis mingle
The course is normally written in pairs of two students. To help you find a partner to write with we will host a thesis mingle before the course starts. More information and an invitation will be sent out at the start of the semester. Further down in the welcome letter there are more information about how you can start looking for a thesis partner right now.

About the course

  • Course Syllabus with Course Literature

The course syllabus describes, among other things, what a course is about, what is required to be eligible, what you are expected to know upon completing the course (learning outcomes), and how you will be assessed. In the syllabus, you will also find the course literature. You can find links to both the syllabus and the course literature under the heading Course start above.

You can also find all course syllabi through the Course Syllabus Search tool, by entering either the course name or course code.

  • Thesis manual and instructions

In the thesis thesis manual on our webpage you will find important information regarding thesis writing, supervision, opposition and other recommendations.

Theses in Business Administration are normally co-written by two authors. It is not possible for two students in a thesis team to write one and the same thesis on differing levels (for example 2nd year Master's thesis and Degree Projects) or of different length (for example 2nd year Master's thesis 15 credits and 30 credits).

Please use the following two systems to inform your fellow students about your research interest (if you are still in need of a thesis partner) or inform us directly about your research team if you have already teamed up.

    1) Research interest system (to find a thesis partner)

    2) Inform us about your formed thesis team
