The study of human language is part of modern cognitive science and the study of language is a study of the human mind. Language exists in the human mind and it has its neurological and biological base in the brain. The course explores how language is organized and how language interacts with other parts of human cognition.
The course is based on online teaching. There will be 4-6 meetings (one of which is compulsory) that can be attended online, or on campus in Umeå as an ordinary classroom session. Access to a computer is required in order to be able to complete the coursework. Required Knowledge
A bachelor's degree or equivalent including 90 ECTS one of the following subjects: Computer Science, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Psychology, or another Cognitive science-related subject, of which at least 15 ECTS are clearly related to Cognition. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in linguistics. English for basic eligibility for university studies.
Academic credits
Applicants in some programs at Umeå University have guaranteed admission to this course. The number of places for a single course may therefore be limited.
