During the course, physiological adaptation to high physical load in sports and training is studied. The course also highlights how the body is affected by exposure to-, and physical strain in extreme environments in an arctic climate. Physiological adaptations in the cardiorespiratory system, nervous system, immune system, musculature and energy metabolism are in focus. Consequences of exposure to extreme environmental factors (cold, heat, high altitude, wind and water) and long-term physical exertion including ultra-distances and how this is affected by age, gender and nutritional status are covered during the course.
