The course deepens the knowledge in the field of medical radiation physics and provides training in planning, implementing and both orally and in written present an independent project. The project normally involves work in an environment with professional medical physicists and other healthcare professionals and aims to simultaneously strengthen the future professional role. The project can also be carried out at a company or authority with a close connection to the area. The course also includes critically reviewing another degree project.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding -show knowledge of the selected project scientific basis and insight into current research and development work -show understanding of the societal benefits of the project
Skills and Abilities - demonstrate the ability to independently plan and implement a major project in both an engineering and scientific manner within given economic and time frameworks, - demonstrate the ability to independently integrate knowledge, current research and development work within the selected project area
Judgement and approach - demonstrate the ability to in writing and and orally, critically evaluate the results and identify strengths and weaknesses and additional needs for knowledge - independently identify relevant sources of information, perform information searches, evaluate the relevance of the information and use correct reference management
Required Knowledge
University: Introductory Course in Medicine, 5 hp, Radiation Biology and Radiation Protection, 7.5 hp, Magnetic Resonance and Ultrasound Imaging 7.5 hp, Physics of X-Rays, 7.5 hp, Physics of Nuclear Medicine 7.5 hp, Applied Dosimetry 5 hp, and Radiation therapy 5 hp, or corresponding. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A/6. Where the language of instruction is Swedish, applicants must prove proficiency in Swedish to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies.
Form of instruction
The teaching is conducted in the form of individual supervision. An examiner at the department provides support in the planning and execution of the work. The language of instruction is Swedish or English.
Examination modes
The course is presented in the form of a scientific report and oral presentation. The report must be linguistically and stylistically well elaborated. In order to obtain the grade Pass (G), the practical implementation of the course must be approved, as well as both the report and the oral presentation. The practical implementation is assessed based on the requirements placed on a licensed medical physicist.
A student who has received a passing result on an exam may not take a new exam.
The examiner can decide on deviations from the examination form of the syllabus. Individual adaptation of the form of examination must be considered based on the student's needs. The form of the examination is adapted within the framework of the curriculum's expected study results. Students who need an adapted examination must request adaptation from the institution responsible for the course no later than 10 days before the examination. The examiner decides on an adapted examination, which is then notified to the student.
A student who has passed two tests for a course or part of a course without a passing result, has the right to have another examiner appointed, unless there are special reasons against it (HF ch. 6 § 22). The request for a new examiner is made to the head of the Department of Radiation Sciences. For more information, see Rules for grades and examinations at undergraduate and advanced level, dnr: FS 1.1-574-22.examensarbete.
Other regulations
In the event that the course plan ceases to apply or undergoes major changes, students are guaranteed at least three exam opportunities (including regular exam opportunities) according to the regulations in the course plan in which the student was originally course registered for a maximum of two years from the time the previous course plan ceased to apply.
